Why Colbert will get away with it.

Much concern is stirring with the debate with “equal air time” in the presidential race. What is equal air time you ask? Equal air time comes from “equal opportunities” that requires that broadcast stations give candidates the same equal and unbiased political air time for each candidates. If one candidate is given the possibility for air time, another candidate must receive equal opportunities to have the same amount of time in their programs. Also, the air time must be reaching roughly the same size audience for all of the candidates. If air time is free then free air time must be given if request by a candidate within a week. Since Colbert has his own show, “The Colbert Report” this gives him a lot of air time other candidates won’t receive.

As of now, a few loop holes are present for Mr. Colbert to jump through. First is being a “legally qualified candidate.” Until the paperwork has been approved for his presidental race, he is not responsible for the air time he has receiving as of now. Another loophole is that news interviews are not counted toward a candidate’s equal air time. Interviews are treated as news worthy events and are treated as news instead of campaigning. Colbert could use this approach and claim he is reporting news, which is what his television show is all about. Finally, since “The Colbert Report” is not on public television, it is harder to receive equal air time due to its select audience. However, this could more slow the process instead of actually getting around it. All said, Stephen Colbert is still in the clear as of now, and if other candidates want equal air time, they should get their own show.

I also would like to thank Ryan McCabe in designing the sites new banner that looks as awesome and American as apple pie and fireworks.

Facebook shows Colbert support!

The college filled social networking site Facebook.com has joined Stephen Colbert in his run for the 2008 presidential election. One group broke the million member mark just nine days after creation. Combine this with multiple applications that can be added to your own personal profile, and it is obvious that Colbert support is reaching an all time high. These numbers are showing that American’s are reaching out in every way they can to show as much support for Stephen Colbert’s run for presidency as they can.

The growth of this group on facebook has outperformed groups formed for every other candidate. After Stephen Colbert’s “1,000,000 Strong For Stephen T Colbert” the next closest political group is a group named “Stop Hillary Clinton: (One Million Strong AGAINST Hillary)” with just under 500,000 members. This isn’t even a support group. Colbert’s group is by far the fastest growing political support group on facebook.

With obvious support from so many Americans, Colbert’s run for presidency should outperform what analysts’ initially predicted. Stephen Colbert is definitely off to a great start.

Vote for Stephen Colbert!

After much hinting and speculation, Stephen Colbert has finally announced his run for president on Tuesday the 16th of September. His announcement came about, on his own show none the less, “The Colbert Report.” This episode came following his guess appearance on Jon Stewart’s show, “The Daily Show.” Colbert said, “I will see how I do in South Carolina before moving onto other states.” This is why we STRONGLY ENCOURAGE everyone in South Carolina to not only vote, but do everything they can to help support Colbert in his first, and critical primary, which is expected to be held on Jan 26th. Immediately he has been doing things “very untraditionally” as we he stated that he is going to run as both a Republican and a Democrat. The basis for this he says is, “I’d let the people decide what party I belong in, I don’t dictate the peoples actions.” Even after this statement is appears the Mr. Colbert is leaning toward the Democratic Party. About three weeks before the show was taped this staff had called Joe Werner, the South Carolina executive director for the Democratic Party. There is no clear cut running mate for Colbert, although he has joked about running with Republican Mike Huckabee, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and even himself. We will have to wait and see how serious Mr. Colbert is about running for president, and we should get a better idea after Nov 1st as that is when paperwork must be filed and turned in for acceptance for both political parties. Make sure to help support Stephen Colbert anyway you can. Also post your opinions both for and against Mr. Colbert in the blog section.
